Control Systems for the Stage
Fall 2019

Traveling Wall Project

Multiple-Axis Project
In Fall 2019, I took a Control Systems for the Stage class where I designed automation and control systems for use on stage. Similar to other classes, using the process of talking with the design team to create a design specification, brainstorming and evaluating concept designs, and moving forward with a detail design, I was able to solve multiple challenges and projects for this class. Skills that were learned include creating function block diagrams, designing Human-Machine Interfaces, identifying both open and closed loop feedback systems, designing PID loops, and programming a PLC using ladder logic with CLICK PLC.

The Traveling Wall Project consists of my controls design for a closed-loop system that controls the motion of two walls that slowly separate throughout a show, stop at intermission, then continue until the end.

The Multiple-Axis Project consists of my controls design for an automated sequence involving three separate units: a door, a wagon, and a sign. The sequence needs to be quick with the large door rising to reveal the large wagon traveling downstage while the sign on the wagon rises as well.
